The Bharat Jodo Yatra, initiated to counter “hatred, price rise, and unemployment” in the country, has become a significant effort to resist the “relentless attacks” on India’s fundamental values, according to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Speaking at the AICC headquarters during the party’s 138th foundation day event, Kharge urged people to join the march, emphasizing that it has started revitalizing millions of Congress workers nationwide. He expressed concern about the relentless assault on the fundamental spirit of India, citing the spread of hatred and the challenges of price rise and unemployment that people are facing.

Kharge underscored the historical significance of the Congress in independent India’s successful milestones, pointing out that the party’s imprint can be found in various sectors. He contrasted India’s progress with some countries that gained independence around the same time but slipped into autocratic forms of government. Kharge attributed India’s success to the Congress’s faith in democracy, inclusive ideology, belief in scientific temperament, and trust in the Constitution, which guarantees equal rights and opportunities to everyone.

Reflecting on the Congress’s historical commitment to democracy, Kharge mentioned that in Jawaharlal Nehru’s first Cabinet, five out of 14 ministers were not from the Congress, highlighting the party’s dedication to strengthening Indian democracy and unity.

Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, party leader Rahul Gandhi, and others were present at the foundation day event. Kharge also attended an event in Mumbai, where the Congress was established in 1885, to commemorate the occasion. Rahul Gandhi expressed pride in being part of an organization that has consistently chosen the path of truth, non-violence, and public interest.

Kharge emphasized the achievements of the UPA government, led by the Congress, from 2004 to 2014, citing landmark legislations such as the RTI, RTE, MGNREGA, National Food Security Act, and Forest Rights Act. He called for the inclusion of more young people, women, individuals from deprived communities, and intellectuals to deepen the inclusive nature of the party in the fight against divisive elements.

Kharge praised Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, describing it as a rejuvenating force for millions of Congress workers and a demonstration of significant support for the Congress’s ideology. He urged people to join the struggle and the yatra for the country’s better future.
